Coupang Selected as Official Participant of the '2021 P4G Seoul Summit'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang's Rocket Delivery model will be introduced as an eco-friendly model through logistics innovation at the '2021 P4G Seoul Summit' held in Seoul in May. The P4G (Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030) Summit is an international environmental conference involving the government, businesses, and civil society. This year's event will be held online in Seoul over two days from the 30th to the 31st of next month.

On the 20th, Coupang announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate in realizing a carbon-neutral vision through inclusive green recovery by participating in corporate cooperation at the '2021 P4G Seoul Summit.'

Coupang explained that it has received global recognition for reducing carbon emissions compared to traditional e-commerce models through innovative technology and logistics systems. By investing trillions of won to build its own end-to-end logistics network and strengthening its unique Rocket Delivery service, it has significantly reduced environmental waste and other inefficiencies generated by traditional e-commerce.

In particular, through artificial intelligence (AI) technology, Coupang optimizes delivery routes and even specifies the loading position of individual products inside vehicles to ensure safe delivery. As a result, more than 75% of Coupang's Rocket Delivery products are delivered in single-layer envelopes without corrugated boxes or other unnecessary packaging. Additionally, Coupang has completely eliminated the use of Styrofoam boxes traditionally used in the fresh food delivery industry and introduced a self-developed recyclable eco-bag. The eco-bag is a container that customers who purchase fresh food simply leave at their door after taking out the products, and Coupang's delivery staff collect it during the next delivery, then clean, sterilize, and recycle it.

Kang Han-seung, Coupang's Chief Operating Officer, said, "As awareness of the importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) continues to grow, we have been selected as an official participant company of the P4G Summit to achieve climate change and carbon neutrality." He added, "We will continue to lead the e-commerce industry's carbon neutrality efforts by expanding investments in eco-bag usage and electric vehicle delivery, among other eco-friendly technologies."
