[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] In a village in Wando, Jeollanam-do, an accident occurred where two people died after villagers shared food containing pufferfish entrails.
According to the Wando Police Station in Jeollanam-do on the 20th, at 3:49 PM the previous day, a man in his 50s, Mr. A, reported to the 119 rescue team that "my wife is unconscious and not breathing" in a village in Sinji-myeon, Wando-gun. The ambulance team was dispatched and transported her to the hospital, but she passed away.
Mr. A also felt unwell and went to the hospital by his own car, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Around the same time, a woman in her 70s, Ms. B, who lives in the same village, showed abnormal symptoms such as difficulty breathing and was transported to the hospital by the 119 rescue team but also died.
It is known that Mr. A and his wife, along with Ms. B, shared a lunch of anchovy soup containing pufferfish entrails that day, and Mr. A reportedly ate very little as the taste did not suit him.
The police plan to investigate the exact cause of death, considering pufferfish toxin poisoning based on Mr. A's statement.
