[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] "We aim to create a happy workplace where people with disabilities and those without work together, care for each other, and everyone enjoys sharing."
Lee Sang-baek, CEO of Nanumnuri, a subsidiary-type standard workplace for people with disabilities under LG Display, made this statement on the occasion of Disability Day on the 20th while introducing the company's management philosophy.
Nanumnuri means "a world shared with people with disabilities." Established by LG Display in March 2012 with the goals of expanding employment for people with disabilities and providing a stable working environment, it currently employs 562 staff members, including 284 people with various types of disabilities such as physical, intellectual, visual, and hearing impairments.
CEO Lee explained, "(Nanumnuri) focuses on providing quality jobs to help people with disabilities become independent, developing job roles and increasing employment rates for people with disabilities, and establishing an organizational culture of sharing and harmony so that they can enjoy a happy life as members of society." By developing suitable job roles for people with severe disabilities who find it difficult to find employment and providing tailored education, the employment rate of people with severe disabilities has exceeded 80%.

In its early days, Nanumnuri operated businesses such as environmental cleaning, steam car washing, and healthcare massage at LG Display’s Gumi and Paju plants. Later, it expanded its scope by discovering new businesses, including in-house cafes, franchise businesses such as snack bars and fast food, and convenience stores.
It is also leading efforts to build a safe and highly satisfactory working environment. A portion of the company’s profits is reinvested to provide specialized cleaning equipment for people with disabilities, and to reduce workload during peak customer hours, the installation of unmanned order kiosks is being promoted. Massage devices will also be supported to help employees rest and recover quickly.
Additionally, tactile paving blocks and braille handrails assist movement within the workplace, and safety-related items such as trekking shoes, thermal vests, and blood pressure monitors are provided. Customized welfare benefits include medical expense support, psychological counseling, housing environment improvements, as well as care programs for health promotion, hobbies, and cultural experiences.
Thanks to these management activities, Nanumnuri has received awards such as the Prime Minister’s Award at the 2014 Disability Employment Promotion Conference, the Excellent Employer for Disability Employment in 2017, and the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit at the 2018 Disability Employment Promotion Conference. CEO Lee stated, "Our goal is for Nanumnuri to establish itself as the top standard workplace for people with disabilities in Korea in various aspects including management performance, service quality, and job satisfaction."
