[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is establishing the ‘Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center’ to nurture future environmental guardians.
The district held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 19th, marking the official start of the center’s construction. With a budget of 3.2 billion KRW, the ‘Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center’ will be built at Sinnae Eoul Park (315-9 Sinnae-dong) with a total floor area of 755㎡, spanning from one basement floor to two above-ground floors, and is scheduled for completion in December.
The center will feature diverse spaces such as an Ecological Maru, Environmental Conference Hall, and Eco Workshop. An outdoor area of 320㎡ will include a vegetable garden and garden, allowing residents to relax comfortably.
The Environmental Education Center will offer various programs for all ages, from infants to adults, including learning about the relationship between climate change and food, observing plants and insects in the park, and seasonal horticultural therapy education. It also plans to provide future environmental experiences such as ‘Aquaponics’ (an eco-friendly farming method that simultaneously raises fish and vegetables), which is emerging as a new alternative in future agriculture.
The district plans to link the Environmental Education Center with local educational institutions such as daycare centers and kindergartens, making it a hub for ecological environmental education.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “I have felt the need to actively respond to the increasingly serious climate crisis and environmental issues,” adding, “We will strive to establish ourselves as a sustainable green environmental city through the operation of the Environmental Education Center.”
Meanwhile, prior to the construction of the Environmental Education Center, the district is conducting an online survey on the Jungnang-gu Office website until the 23rd to gather residents’ opinions on environmental education.
The survey results will be reflected in the development and operation of the Environmental Education Center’s programs, and a nickname for the center will also be solicited to make it more approachable to residents.
