'The Holy Site of Gyeongbuk Independence Movement' Restoration Project of Andong Imcheonggak in Sight... Removal of Railway Structures The railway in front of Andong Imcheonggak has been removed.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] The demolition work of surrounding railway structures is underway to restore Andong Imcheonggak, known as the sacred site of the independence movement in the Gyeongbuk region, to its original appearance.

According to Andong City on the 20th, all houses around Imcheonggak have been demolished, and the cultural heritage trial excavation has been completed. Concrete demolition work, including retaining walls, will continue until June.

Structures such as the railway bridge about 50 meters in front of Imcheonggak and Imcheonggyo (Beopheung-dong 7-6) will be separately preserved to remember and not forget the painful history.

Along with the restoration of Imcheonggak, Andong City plans to restore the lost houses, trees, and ferry sites, and install convenience facilities such as parking lots and restrooms. Additionally, a historical and cultural sharing center will be built where visitors can learn about the meaning and spirit of Imcheonggak, the sacred site of the independence movement.

Earlier, on January 27, the Korea National Railway Corporation and Andong City signed a business agreement related to the relocation of the Jungang Line railway, and are conducting follow-up work for the restoration of Imcheonggak, the birthplace of Seokju Lee Sang-ryong, and the development project of the old Andong Station site.

Andong City established a comprehensive restoration plan for Imcheonggak in 2018 and plans to restore Imcheonggak to its original form and maintain the surroundings with a budget of 28 billion KRW by 2025.
