Added 'Bottle Opener' Function to Seongdong-type Living Lab No.3 Creation Proposed and Co-created by Residents, Enhanced Safety for Higher Completeness... From Seongdong Living Lab to Real-time Smart Security Light Fault Check System and Priority Parking Zones for Strollers...
On the 13th, the Recycling Life Research Group of Wangsimni KCC Apartments in Seongdong-gu held a demonstration and briefing session for residents on the Seongdong-type transparent PET bottle label removal stick.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) produced transparent PET bottle label removal sticks and distributed a total of 1,546 units last month to 146 apartment complexes.
The transparent PET bottle label removal stick is a device that easily removes labels from recyclable transparent PET bottles. Last July, a resident proposed through the Seongdong-gu Citizen Hall to produce and use the transparent PET bottle label removal stick. The district publicized the resident’s brilliant idea for recycling separation, encouraged interest and participation from many residents, and produced the label removal sticks.
The Seongdong-gu Citizen Hall is a Seongdong-gu living lab platform where policies directly proposed by residents are reviewed and examined by residents and stakeholders, and a living research group is formed to reflect policies that gain consensus into district policies.
Accordingly, together with the proposer, a ‘Wangsimni KCC Recycling Living Research Group’ was formed with residents interested in transparent PET bottle recycling separation. Over about four months, they enhanced the Seongdong-type transparent PET bottle label removal stick by adding a bottle opener function to the initial prototype and improving safety.
Also, on the 13th of last month, a demonstration and briefing session for the Seongdong-type transparent PET bottle label removal stick was held at Wangsimni KCC Apartments, organized by the Recycling Living Research Group, to promote the mandatory removal of labels from transparent PET bottles and the convenience of doing so.
Recently, with the surge in delivery and packaged food due to COVID-19, the importance of reducing waste and recycling separation has been emphasized. Since December 25 of last year, it has been mandatory to remove labels when disposing of transparent PET bottles in apartment complexes, making this product essential in daily life, according to district officials.
The district has been leading policies for residents through the Seongdong-type living lab, realizing policies proposed and created together with residents, including the 2019 smart security light real-time malfunction check system, last year’s installation of priority parking zones for strollers at Seongdong-gu Office, and now the transparent PET bottle label removal stick. It is also advancing policies for residents such as the construction of a school route for Eungbong Elementary School and the creation of safe pedestrian paths for residents of Songjeong-dong.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “The main actors of administration are the residents themselves. If they find inconveniences in daily life and seek solutions directly, not only satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment but also love for the community will grow stronger. We will further expand the living lab project so that residents can become the main actors of policy projects and create a new administrative paradigm.”
