Chinese Woman Protests by Climbing on Tesla Vehicle at Shanghai Motor Show

After Fatal Accident Involving 2 Deaths During Autonomous Driving, Tesla Stock Falls 5% Breaking Below $700

[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Tesla's stock price is showing weakness following news that two people died in a car accident during autonomous driving, along with circulating protest videos about vehicle safety in China.

On the 19th (local time) in the Nasdaq market, Tesla's stock price fell 5.9% as of 10:10 a.m., trading around $697. The recently maintained $700 range has collapsed again.

The Wall Street Journal reported that on the first day of the Shanghai Motor Show in China, a woman climbed onto a displayed Model 3 vehicle at the Tesla booth and protested, shouting about vehicle defects.

The woman was wearing a shirt with the phrases "The brakes do not work" and "Invisible killer" written on it. She was dragged out by security personnel.

The woman's sudden protest spread across China via social media, shared by attendees at the event. Within a few hours, over 150 million people watched the video on China's social media platform Weibo.

Netizens who saw the video expressed dissatisfaction with Tesla. Some claimed, "Tesla is harassing Chinese consumers" and "Let's support Chinese electric vehicles."

Recently, Chinese state media have been highlighting problems with Tesla vehicles. Tesla has built a factory in Shanghai and is expanding its strategy in China, which is a key target market for Tesla.
