90% Support for Korean Medicine Herbal Decoction Costs for Infertility Treatment...Support for 84 Infertile Couples, Including Common-Law Couples Possible
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul has taken proactive measures to address the ultra-low birthrate era and infertility issues.
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced that it will promote the ‘2021 Korean Medicine Infertility Treatment Support Project’ to assist families struggling with infertility.
The purpose is to raise the declining birthrate by increasing the chances of pregnancy through traditional Korean medicine methods.
The Korean Medicine Infertility Treatment Support Project is designed to help improve the health and quality of life of infertile couples through Korean medical treatment (herbal medicine intake), thereby increasing the success rate of pregnancy.
The district plans to support 84 infertile couples this year.
The support targets couples residing in Gangseo-gu, with women aged 41 or younger, diagnosed with unexplained infertility. Common-law couples are also eligible. However, applicants must have lived in Seoul for at least six months as of the application date, and simultaneous support with the national infertility couple procedure cost support is not allowed.
Selected applicants can receive 90% coverage of the herbal medicine prescription costs for infertility treatment over three months, while basic livelihood security recipients and lower-income groups can receive full coverage of the prescription costs.
Infertile couples wishing to apply must first visit the Seoul Pregnancy and Childbirth Information Center website to conduct a self-assessment of eligibility.
After the self-assessment, applicants must print the results and submit them along with the participation application form, consent form for personal information use, a medical certificate confirming unexplained infertility, and other related documents in person at the Health Management Division of Gangseo-gu Public Health Center. Additional proof documents are required for common-law couples.
More detailed information can be found on the ‘Gangseo-gu Office website - News Plaza - Notices/News’, where necessary application forms can also be downloaded.
The district will select support recipients through document screening, and selected infertile couples will receive a support decision notice and can choose a designated Korean medicine clinic for treatment.
District Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “We hope this support project will alleviate some of the economic and psychological burdens of families suffering from infertility,” and added, “We will make further efforts to provide multifaceted support to overcome the social issue of low birthrate.”
