Busan Jung-gu, Owner Admits to Reusing Broth by Reheating It Upon Request
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The "Safe Restaurant" was a restaurant that could not be trusted.
The owner of a restaurant in Jung-gu, Busan, which became controversial after a post on a community site claimed that the fish cake soup broth served to customers was reheated and reused, admitted to reusing the broth on the 19th.
Jung-gu decided to suspend the restaurant's business for 15 days and file a criminal complaint against the owner.
According to Jung-gu on the 19th, the restaurant was a "Safe Restaurant" that complied with "providing utensils for serving separately," "hygienic spoon management," and "employees wearing masks."
However, after the controversy arose from the post, Jung-gu conducted an on-site inspection of the restaurant. A Jung-gu official said, "The owner admitted to reusing the food," and added, "We plan to impose a 15-day business suspension and file a criminal complaint."
The controversy began on the 18th when a post titled "Dirty Restaurant in Busan" was uploaded to an online community.
The author wrote, "I went into the restaurant thinking it was a famous place during my trip, but they went beyond reusing food and behaved very unsanitarily, so I stopped eating and left."
He said, "When the men at the back table asked to have the broth reheated, I saw them ladle the broth they had been drinking back into the broth container and reheat it. I couldn't believe my eyes, so I asked them to reheat ours too, and sure enough, they poured the broth back into the broth container and reheated it."
He recorded the situation on video and posted capture photos of the reheating process and the receipt. To prevent misunderstandings about other restaurants, he also shared a photo of the restaurant sign that said "60 years of tradition."
In Busan last month, a pork soup restaurant in Dong-gu was suspended for 15 days after a scene of reusing radish kimchi was broadcast on a personal streaming platform on the 15th.
Also, shortly after, a pollack stew restaurant in Changwon, Gyeongnam, faced controversy after a customer was seen putting leftover stew into a large pot to boil again.
