[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 19th that it has completely reorganized its organization focusing on establishing a railway think tank function and strengthening the role of railway infrastructure managers.

First, through the organizational restructuring, the Rail Network Authority established the Future Strategy Research Institute directly under the President, and set up the Policy Development Division and Technology Research Division under it to promote railway policy development and core railway technology research.

In addition, the status of railway facility managers was elevated by upgrading the organizational system of the Facilities Headquarters, and the Facility Design Department and Communication Improvement Department were newly established under it to strengthen expertise in improvement project design and construction functions.

As a proactive measure to prepare for the continuous increase in railway network construction projects, the Civil Engineering Design Division 3 of the Civil Engineering Design Department and the Metropolitan Area Headquarters Metropolitan Area Project Group were also newly established. The Rail Network Authority's strategy is to ensure that new railway construction projects are promoted in a timely manner through this.

Along with the organizational restructuring, a new CI reflecting the image of eco-friendly and low-carbon green railways was developed. The new CI applies green to the gold parts of the existing CI, embodying the will to build a sustainable railway-centered transportation system and achieve carbon neutrality.

Kim Han-young, President of the Rail Network Authority, said, “With the organizational restructuring, the Rail Network Authority will swiftly respond to future transportation trends such as the 4th Industrial Revolution and digitalization of railway infrastructure, and focus on establishing a sustainable railway transportation system including carbon neutrality by 2050. In addition, we will actively invest in the improvement of aging facilities and development of core railway technologies to ensure that the public can receive safe and comfortable railway services.”
