[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Gijang County, Busan, protested the decision to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean by holding a solo demonstration in front of the Japanese Embassy on the 19th.

The mayor, who was deeply angered by the Japanese government's unilateral decision, targeted not only the Japanese Consulate but also the Embassy.

Mayor Oh held a solo protest on the 14th in front of the main gate of the Japanese Consulate in Busan, urging the withdrawal of the decision to discharge radioactive contaminated water from Fukushima into the ocean, and on this day at 2 p.m., he took a second action in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul.

Earlier on the 19th, he also sent official letters to the Chairpersons of the Korea Association of City and Provincial Mayors and the National Association of Mayors, County Heads, and District Heads.

Mayor Oh proposed adopting a joint statement urging the Japanese government to withdraw its policy in solidarity with local governments nationwide and suggested a joint response.

Mayor Oh stated, "The Japanese government's decision is a second Imjin War that kills our sea, fisheries, fishermen, and citizens, so the entire nation must become righteous armies and fight to the end."

He added, "The decision to discharge radioactive contaminated water from Fukushima, born of the Japanese government's extreme selfishness, is driving the residents of Gijang County, who live by the sea, into extreme fear," and declared, "We will defend Gijang County to the end from radioactive exposure."
