Jeonnam Region's COVID-19 Infection Rate per Population 'Lowest Nationwide'

According to Jeonnam Province on the 19th, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region has exceeded 1,000.

Since the first confirmed case occurred in Naju in February last year, it has been about 430 days, averaging 2.3 cases per day.

Nationally, the metropolitan cities and provinces with fewer than 1,000 cases are only Jeju (675 cases) and Sejong (344 cases). The total number of confirmed cases nationwide is 106,644 domestic and 8,002 imported, totaling 114,464 cases.

The incidence rate per 100,000 people in Jeonnam is 54, the lowest in the country. Sejong follows with 100.49 cases, and Jeju with 100.63 cases.

As of this day, the number of diagnostic tests conducted is 1,008,868, averaging about 2,345 tests per day.

Kang Young-gu, Director of Health and Welfare Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, “Although the daily average of confirmed cases is 2.3, the lowest nationwide, we will concentrate all administrative efforts on COVID-19 prevention activities to protect the lives of residents,” and added, “We ask residents to strictly follow prevention guidelines and to get tested at health centers if symptoms appear.”

As of this day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Jeonnam has increased to 1,007 with one additional case in Suncheon from last night to this morning. Local infections number 929, and imported cases are 78.

The number of vaccinated people is 85,502 in total, with 51,299 (83.4%) out of 61,512 first-quarter target individuals vaccinated, and 34,203 (15.6%) out of 219,553 second-quarter target individuals vaccinated, recording a vaccination rate of 30.4%.
