[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Defense contractor SNT Motiv announced on the 19th that it has exported its independently developed police smart pistol (model name STRV-9) to the Middle East ahead of its domestic introduction.
The SNT Motiv police smart pistol was developed from 2016 to 2020 as part of a 'civil-military cooperation project' and is currently under consideration for domestic adoption.
SNT Motiv explained, "This pistol has been highly evaluated for its unique system, applied for the first time in the world, and its excellent revolver-type (rotating magazine) design, leading to its initial export to the Middle East."
The smart pistol, unlike a conventional pistol, is developed according to the user operation concept. It can use blanks, non-lethal rounds, and standard rounds (live ammunition), allowing the shooter to confirm the type of ammunition being used while firing.
Non-lethal rounds reduce the energy of standard live rounds to one-tenth, providing appropriate physical force to minimize damage while effectively subduing the target. Equipped with a smart module, data such as firing count, location, time, and firing angle are recorded.
An SNT Motiv official said, "Since showcasing the smart pistol and non-lethal rounds at the 'Defense Industry Exhibition (DX Korea)' in November last year and the 'IDEX 2021 Defense Exhibition' held in the Middle East this February, we have received significant interest from several countries including the Middle East, leading to this supply contract."
The official added, "This is a great achievement where domestic defense technology was recognized overseas first," and "Once the government agencies complete their review for domestic adoption, it is planned to be introduced domestically as well."
