Training Support by Human Resources Development Committees in 10 Regions Nationwide Including Chungnam
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 19th that it will pilot the 'Visiting Vocational Training' project starting this year to meet the training demand caused by industrial structural changes toward digital and low-carbon sectors and the employment crisis due to COVID-19.
Minister of Employment and Labor Lee Jae-gap visited the Severance Building in Jung-gu, Seoul at 2 p.m. on the same day to hold a project promotion presentation with the institutions carrying out the training project. This project supports training courses by discovering urgent vocational training fields through 10 Regional Skills Councils (RSCs). The goal for this year is to support customized training courses for 5,000 people for job changes and career transitions.
The Chungnam Regional Committee announced plans to provide customized training courses focusing on strategic industries such as the display manufacturing industry, coal-fired power generation, and the bio industry. Jeonbuk plans to operate training after calling for proposals for job change training courses in the automobile parts manufacturing and shipbuilding industries. Daegu will operate customized training to overcome the slump in the automobile and textile industries and respond to the increased demand for drivers and transportation workers due to the impact of COVID-19.
Training courses will be opened under relaxed standards, such as exempting training institution certification evaluations centered on the public-private cooperation system. When reviewing training courses, training cost support will be increased by raising the support ratio above the National Competency Standards (NCS) training unit price by occupation.
Minister Lee said, "I hope that the RSC, composed of local communities, industries, local governments, and experts, will become a strong support to overcome the job crisis of vulnerable groups by providing necessary training in the region in a timely manner," and added, "Unlike before, we will expand training projects led by the region and supported by the government."
