Expecting 5 Billion KRW Investment by 2025, Resource Enhancement of Munchigajami and More
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 19th that it will actively promote the flounder spawning and habitat creation project from this year until 2025.
The starry flounder is the main ingredient of 'Dodari Ssukguk,' a springtime favorite dish in our region, and is known as a representative seafood of Jinhae, but its recent catch volume has sharply declined.
Accordingly, the city applied last year for the new target site contest for the fishery resource spawning and habitat creation project hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and was selected as a site for flounder spawning and habitat creation.
The flounder spawning and habitat creation project will invest a total of 5 billion KRW by 2025.
In the coastal area of Changwon City, activities such as starry flounder seed release, spawning and habitat creation, autonomous management, and monitoring will be promoted.
The city will sign a business management agency agreement with the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency regarding the 'Changwon City Flounder Spawning and Habitat Creation Project.'
A management committee composed of fishermen, specialized research institutions, and others was formed, and the first meeting was held on the 16th to begin full-scale project promotion.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu stated, "Through this project, we will restore high value-added fishery resources to help increase fishermen's income," adding, "The enhancement of fishery resources is expected to provide fresh food for urban residents in the future and contribute to the V-shaped rebound of the city's economy."
