KT&G Conducts Leaf Tobacco Transplant Volunteer Work in Jecheon, Chungbuk

KT&G conducted a leaf tobacco transplanting volunteer activity on the 16th in the Jecheon area of Chungbuk to assist leaf tobacco farms facing labor shortages due to the impact of COVID-19. KT&G employees are shown carrying out the transplanting work.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] KT&G announced on the 19th that it conducted a leaf tobacco transplanting volunteer service in the Jecheon area of Chungbuk to help leaf tobacco farms facing labor shortages due to the impact of COVID-19.

KT&G Raw Materials Headquarters and employees from the Gimcheon factory who participated in the volunteer service visited leaf tobacco farms in Baegun-myeon, Jecheon-si, Chungbuk, and carried out seedling transportation and transplanting work on farmland of about 10,000㎡ (approximately 3,000 pyeong).

Due to the cultivation characteristics of leaf tobacco, seeds are not sown directly in the field but grown as seedlings in a nursery facility and then transplanted. This is an important process that determines the yield for the year. Since 2009, KT&G has been conducting volunteer activities for 13 years to assist farms struggling to secure labor and to pass on know-how for producing high-quality leaf tobacco.
