[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Unification stated on the 19th that it is not considering regulations on radio broadcasts to North Korea.
This was in response to some media reports claiming that the Ministry of Unification included 'transmission and reception through information and communication networks' among the items requiring the Minister of Unification's approval for export and import in the amendment to the Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Act proposed last January, interpreting it as an attempt to block radio broadcasts to North Korea.
The Ministry of Unification explained, "This amendment to the Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Act aims to include not only 'goods' but also services or files transmitted and received via means such as the internet, reflecting changes in technology and transaction methods in the exchange and cooperation environment," and added, "Radio broadcasts to North Korea do not fall under the export or import of intangible electronic forms as stipulated in this regulation."
