Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Supports Employment in Youth Fishery Corporations... Covers 80% of Monthly Salary

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will start the 'Fisheries Corporation Employment Support Project' from the 19th, providing young people with practical training opportunities at fisheries corporations to attract new workforce into the fishing industry.

Fisheries corporations are organizations established to collaboratively and corporately manage the distribution, processing, export of seafood, and rural tourism and leisure businesses related to fisheries. Most of them are small enterprises and consist mainly of middle-aged and older workers, making it difficult to respond to rapid environmental changes such as the expansion of online markets after COVID-19.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will support young people with excellent online work capabilities to work at fisheries corporations, creating jobs for youth and strengthening the competitiveness of fisheries corporations by securing the first supplementary budget this year to promote the 'Fisheries Corporation Employment Support Project.'

Within a total budget of 311 million KRW, the ministry will support fisheries corporations that newly hire young workers by covering 80% of the monthly salary up to 2.02 million KRW per person for a maximum of six months. Eligible candidates are unemployed youth aged 18 to under 40, and fisheries corporations with a certain scale of management (an average sales of 200 million KRW or more over the past two years or three or more regular employees).

Participating youth can gain experience in various tasks such as distribution, marketing, and sales in the fisheries sector using digital tools, digitization of records, production, and management.

The ministry will announce the first recruitment by the end of this month and select the first project participants on the 7th of next month. For more details, please contact the Suhyup Fishermen Job Support Center.
