[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] The election for the floor leader of the People Power Party will be a four-way contest among lawmakers Kwon Seong-dong, Kim Gi-hyeon, Kim Tae-heum, and Yoo Ui-dong.

Kwon, a four-term lawmaker, will hold a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office this afternoon to announce his candidacy for floor leader. He stated, "The public sentiment revealed in the April 7 by-elections calls for moving away from extreme politics toward common sense and rationality," adding, "I will aim for centrism and rationality based on common sense and approach the hearts of the people." The day before, Kim Gi-hyeon (four-term) and Kim Tae-heum (three-term) declared their candidacies, and three-term lawmaker Yoo Ui-dong will also announce his bid on the 20th. Yoo, born in the 1970s and from the metropolitan area, plans to emphasize the need for young and flexible thinking for party reform and innovation as he challenges for the position.

The vote is expected to take place sometime next week. The floor leader election process involves official announcement, candidate registration, and voting on the third day after the announcement. Due to schedules such as government questioning early this week, it may be difficult to issue the announcement, so it is likely to be made in the latter part of this week or, at the latest, on Tuesday the 26th of next week.
