[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in expressed his determination on the 61st anniversary of the April 19 Revolution, stating, "We must continue moving forward toward a more mature democracy without stopping."
On the 19th, President Moon said through social networking service (SNS), "The April 19 Revolution became the firm root of democracy in the Republic of Korea," and visited the National April 19 Democratic Cemetery that morning to pay his respects.
President Moon said, "It was the day when democracy was deeply planted in our hearts with a passion hotter than life itself," and added, "We must remember the great history of democracy on this land and continue moving forward toward a more mature democracy without stopping."
In his speech on the 60th anniversary, President Moon quoted a line from poet Kim Soo-young's poem 'Grass': "Crying faster than the wind and rising before the wind." As a token of gratitude for this, Kim Hyun-kyung, the poet's wife, sent a thank-you note along with photos of the handwritten original manuscript of 'Grass' and the complete works of Kim Soo-young, for which the President expressed his appreciation.
President Moon also said, "I once again dedicate a line from Kim Soo-young's poem to the heroes of the April 19 Revolution," quoting from Kim's poem 'Blue Sky': 'For freedom / Those who have tried to soar / Know / What the skylark / Sees and / Sings about / Why freedom / Is mixed with the scent of blood / Why revolution / Is lonely.'
