[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] In Gyeongsangbuk-do, as the n-th wave of COVID-19 infections progresses centered around Gyeongsan, where sporadic group infections occurred in churches and elderly care facilities, 19 new confirmed cases were added on the 18th, including 2 imported cases.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 19th, as of midnight, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Gyeongbuk area was 3,843 (including 98 imported cases). The number of new confirmed cases by region is 8 in Gyeongsan City, 5 in Gyeongju City, 4 in Gumi City, and 1 each in Pohang City and Chilgok County.
Among the 8 new confirmed cases in Gyeongsan City, 3 are related to the church where the group infection occurred. Four others are contacts of previously confirmed cases, and the infection route of the remaining one is unknown.
In Gyeongju City, among the 5 new confirmed cases, 3 are citizens who had contact with confirmed cases from the Ulsan area. One other is a contact of Pohang case number 533 confirmed on the 4th, and the remaining one is an imported case.
In Gumi City, among the 4 new confirmed cases, one is a citizen whose movement overlapped with a confirmed case related to the Gumi Office of Education, another is related to the group infection at Gumi S Church. One more is a contact of previously confirmed case Gumi 447, and the last one’s infection route is unidentified.
The confirmed case in Pohang City was confirmed positive while in self-quarantine after contact with Pohang case number 551 confirmed on the 10th, and the one confirmed case in Chilgok County is an imported case.
In Gyeongsangbuk-do, over the past week, 137 people (excluding imported cases) were confirmed positive across various regions, resulting in a weekly daily average of 19.6 confirmed cases. Currently, 2,557 people are in self-quarantine.
