Agreement with Northeast Asian History Foundation on the 19th... First Step to Create Public Cultural Welfare Space... Open Cultural Space of 760 Pyeong Established on Basement Level 2 of Times Square
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) will sign a business agreement on the 19th with the Northeast Asian History Foundation (Chairman Lee Young-ho), a public institution under the Ministry of Education, to create a public cultural welfare space on the 2nd basement floor of Times Square.
The signing ceremony will be held in the district office's planning situation room with a total of 10 attendees, including district officials, Ministry of Education representatives, and Northeast Asian History Foundation officials.
Through this agreement, the first Dokdo Experience Center, which was installed in Seodaemun-gu, will be relocated to the public cultural welfare space on the 2nd basement floor of Times Square in Yeongdeungpo-gu.
The district plans to establish the public cultural welfare space on the 2nd basement floor of Times Square in the second half of this year and will provide the space for the Dokdo Experience Center to expand and relocate free of charge according to this agreement.
The public cultural welfare space will be created on a total area of 2,515㎡ (760 pyeong) on the 2nd basement floor of Times Square, consisting of the district's cultural welfare space, the Dokdo Experience Center, and shared spaces. It will include ▲a community space open to everyone and usable for various purposes ▲Yeongdeungpo Digital History Museum ▲VR experience center ▲performance hall and gallery ▲spaces for small group and club activities.
The Dokdo Experience Center to be housed here will be approximately 300 pyeong in size.
Composed of the Resource Hall, Nature Hall, Future Hall, and History Hall, it will be a cultural space that fosters citizens' historical awareness while experiencing Dokdo's past history, present, and future.
Additionally, the 95-pyeong shared space will be filled with seminar rooms, planned exhibition rooms, and rest areas for residents' communication and relaxation. This space will be jointly used by the district and the Northeast Asian History Foundation, and they plan to present various cultural programs to residents and citizens through collaboration between the two institutions.
Meanwhile, since the 7th local government administration, the district has been implementing various cultural promotion policies to leap forward as a cultural city. As a result, last year, it achieved the distinction of being the first autonomous district in Seoul to be designated as a preliminary cultural city. Not stopping there, it is making every effort to lay the cultural foundation, including the establishment of the 2nd Sejong Cultural Center and the Daeseonjeobun Cultural Development Center.
The Yeongdeungpo public cultural welfare space is one of the district's key cultural policy projects. Through the expansion and relocation of the Dokdo Experience Center, the district aims to build a diverse cultural platform and provide an open cultural space that anyone can enjoy.
Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chae Hyun-il said, “It is very meaningful to partner with the Northeast Asian History Foundation, which strives to protect Dokdo's sovereignty, and to expand and relocate the Dokdo Experience Center to Times Square, a landmark of Yeongdeungpo.” He added, “Through this agreement, we will solidly organize Yeongdeungpo's cultural welfare space and provide abundant opportunities for cultural enjoyment to all residents, creating a cultural city Yeongdeungpo.”
