Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Seoul Metropolitan Council Sign Memorandum of Understanding for Mutual Cooperation in Local Autonomy Implementation

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 19th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon will sign a "Memorandum of Understanding for Mutual Cooperation in Realizing Local Autonomy" with the Seoul Metropolitan Council in the VIP waiting room of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Main Building, 1st floor).

After the conclusion of the 300th Seoul Metropolitan Council plenary session, Mayor Oh will meet with Kim In-ho, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, and other council leaders to exchange greetings and sign the agreement. The memorandum was realized at the proposal of the council for active cooperation between the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the council to open a successful era of decentralized local governance.

The agreement aims for mutual cooperation on follow-up measures such as revising ordinances related to the Local Autonomy Act, which has been amended for the first time in 32 years and is set to be implemented next year, as well as preparations for the successful operation of the "Autonomous Police System" to be fully launched on July 1.

Before the council plenary session, Mayor Oh is also scheduled to attend and deliver a congratulatory speech at the "300th Session Commemorative Event of the Seoul Metropolitan Council" held in the plenary hall.

Meanwhile, after signing the memorandum, Mayor Oh will meet with Simon Smith, British Ambassador to Korea, in the mayor’s office. This will be their first meeting, where they plan to discuss topics such as friendly exchange and cooperation between Seoul and British cities.
