[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Park Yong-jin, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, proposed a transition to a volunteer military system and gender-equal military service in his book outlining his intention and vision for the presidential election.

Park announced on the 18th that his book, Park Yong-jin's Political Revolution, will be published on the 19th, describing it as "a book containing the determination and commitment to change the world by confronting the deeply rooted inequality and unfairness that divide and frustrate the people in South Korea's aging and exhausted politics."

He added, "Social inequality and unfairness have worsened due to COVID-19, and conflicts and divisions have deepened. The current situation in South Korea brings to mind the word 'revolution.' Talking about revolution in words alone is meaningless. Courage is needed. For politics to open the path of hope for South Korea, now is the time for courageous politicians to stand against inequality and unfairness," explaining his decision to run for president.

The book includes considerations on issues such as chaebol reform, support for innovative companies, universal taxation, free education for kindergartens and national/public universities, labor law improvements, proposals for a volunteer military system and gender-equal military service, strategic responses to the US-China conflict, and carbon neutrality.

It is known that his plan is to abolish the current conscription system but conduct basic military training for both men and women for 40 to 100 days to train them as reservists.
