Support of 350 Devices to Bridge the Digital Divide and Facilitate Remote Classes
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will provide 350 online learning smart devices to lifelong education facilities for people with disabilities and literacy education institutions recognized for academic achievement to bridge the digital education gap.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will support smart devices for students who have difficulty with online learning and elderly learners from the 19th to the 30th. This is to minimize learning gaps at lifelong learning education institutions and support students who have difficulty accessing remote classes during online school openings.
In addition, the Seoul Lifelong Education Volunteer Group operates the visiting literacy classroom 'Munttoeksaem,' visiting learners to support the use of smart pads and online learning devices, and promotes pilot lectures on smart device utilization for elderly learners hosted by literacy education hub institutions, as well as teacher capacity-building training.
Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "I understand that marginalized groups and elderly learners at lifelong education institutions are facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 situation," adding, "We support learners who attend classes with enthusiastic desire for learning despite poor environments, and we will listen to field opinions and prepare solutions to bridge the digital education gap."
