Application Open for Agricultural Foreign Workers' Housing Support Project: 15 Million KRW per Location

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The government announced on the 18th that it will begin accepting applications for the housing support project for foreign workers in the agricultural sector, providing approximately 15 million KRW per location, starting on the 19th.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated that it will support the renovation and installation costs of vacant houses or movable modular homes for foreign workers. This is part of the rural workforce influx policy.

Farmers can submit project applications to the eup, myeon, or dong offices from the 19th to the 30th. After evaluation by city and provincial authorities, supported farms will be selected. Farms must employ at least one foreign worker through the Employment Permit System by the 30th, secure a site for a vacant house or movable modular home installation, and if renting, sign a lease contract of at least seven years with the owner and submit proof documents. Selected farms will receive cost support starting from the 10th of next month.

Support is provided for up to two locations per farm. Approximately 15 million KRW will be supported per location. The project budget can be used not only for facility construction but also for security devices, locks, and installation costs of security CCTV. Professional counselors and interpreters will visit foreign workers residing in the supported facilities to provide consultations on legal, labor, and daily life matters.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to hold local government briefing sessions within this month to explain the project purpose, eligibility, and support details. It will also hold counseling management project briefings and produce and distribute guidance materials to ensure foreign workers receive thorough consultations.
