Gyeongsangnam-do announced that after 5 p.m. on the 17th, a total of 67 confirmed cases occurred: 31 in Gimhae, 14 in Jinju, 13 in Sacheon, 3 in Yangsan, 2 in Goseong, and 1 each in Changwon, Miryang, Geoje, and Geochang.
Infections in the province had remained in the teens with around 10 cases on the 12th, but steadily increased from the 13th with 27 cases, 24 on the 14th, and 40 each on the 15th and 16th.
In Gimhae, among the 31 cases, 13 are related to a cram school in Gimhae. The cluster of confirmed cases at the cram school includes students, teachers, and parents, with ages ranging widely from under 10 to their 50s.
Since the first confirmed case at this cram school on the 13th, the cumulative number of related confirmed cases has risen to 25. The elementary school attended by the infected student has switched to remote classes to prevent further spread.
In Jinju, among the 14 confirmed cases, 4 are related to a gathering of acquaintances. This brings the total number of confirmed cases linked to the acquaintance gathering at a karaoke bar to 44.
In Sacheon, 13 of the 12 cases are related to the Didleebap Sacheon branch. The cumulative number of related confirmed cases has increased to 24.
In Yangsan, 2 cases are under investigation for infection routes, and 1 case is a family member of a confirmed case within the province.
The 3 cases in Geochang, Miryang, and Changwon are all contacts of confirmed cases within the province.
In particular, in Miryang, with confirmed cases occurring at a daycare center, testing is underway for 181 people, including 153 children enrolled.
In Geoje, the case is a contact of a confirmed case from Busan.
Accordingly, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province has increased to 3,351 (3,014 discharged, 323 hospitalized, 14 deceased).
The COVID-19 vaccination rate in the province shows that among 2.8 million people aged 18 and over, about 112,400 people, including 28,800 seniors aged 75 and over, have completed the first dose, reflecting a vaccination rate of approximately 4%.
