A Shinhan Financial Group official, Kim Kyung-tae's agency, stated on the 17th, "He tested positive for COVID-19 in Japan yesterday." He was diagnosed with COVID-19 before the second round of the Token Homemate Cup held at Token Tado Golf Course (par 71) in Mie Prefecture, Japan, the previous day. Upon entering the tournament venue, his body temperature exceeded 38 degrees Celsius during the fever screening, and the first PCR test conducted at a nearby hospital also showed a positive result.
A second saliva-based test also confirmed the positive diagnosis, and he is currently waiting at a nearby hospital. He is undergoing isolation treatment according to the tournament guidelines. Park Eun-shin (31), who is presumed to have been in contact with Kim Kyung-tae, also withdrew. Japan Daily Sports reported, "The third round of the tournament has been suspended while disinfection work is being carried out at the golf course." Kim Kyung-tae has recorded a total of 14 wins in Japan, including winning this tournament in 2016. He has also secured six wins on the Korean Tour.
