US-Japan Leaders "Reaffirm Commitment to North Korea Denuclearization"... Essential Trilateral Security Cooperation Among South Korea, US, and Japan

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea on the 16th (local time).


President Biden and Prime Minister Suga stated this in a joint statement released by the White House following their summit at the White House on the same day.


The two leaders urged North Korea to comply with the obligations of the UN Security Council resolutions on North Korea and called on the international community to ensure full implementation.


The two leaders said, "We seek to strengthen deterrence to maintain peace and stability in the region," and "We will cooperate to address risks related to North Korea, including the threat of nuclear proliferation."


President Biden reaffirmed the United States' commitment to the immediate resolution of the issue of Japanese abductees.


The two leaders also mentioned issues in the Indo-Pacific region, stating, "We agree that trilateral cooperation with South Korea is essential for joint security and prosperity."
