Jeonnam Fire Department Conducts Joint Drill to Suppress Fires on Docked Ships

Jeonnam Fire Department Conducts Joint Drill to Suppress Fires on Docked Ships

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A 'Joint Fire Suppression Drill for Docked Vessel Fires' was conducted under the supervision of the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters.

On the 17th, according to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon), the drill took place the previous day at the Suhyup Pier in Bongsan-dong, Yeosu City.

The drill was promoted to establish a rapid response system for similar fires due to the recent increase in fire incidents on docked vessels, such as the vessel fires at Sinjin Port in Taean, Chungnam last month and at Gukdong Port in Yeosu.

Assuming a fire accident on a docked fishing vessel at a fishing port, Yeosu Fire Station, private marine rescue teams, and Yeosu Coast Guard jointly conducted fire suppression and response training.

The scenario simulated a fire occurring in the engine room of a docked fishing vessel, deploying a total of 77 personnel including three Coast Guard patrol vessels, seven fire trucks from Yeosu Fire Station, three private fishing vessels, and private marine rescue team members.

The fire department secured nearby hydrants and used pump trucks, aerial ladder trucks, and chemical trucks to concentrate water on the fire source, implementing firefighting tactics to prevent vessel flooding and sinking.

The private marine rescue team and Yeosu Coast Guard conducted water rescue, separation of moored vessels, and oil fence installation training.

Lee Joonghee, Director of the Response Prevention Division, said, "Damage from fires on docked vessels has been increasing recently," and added, "We will continue to promote joint public-private drills to minimize damage from vessel fires."
