[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Confirmed cases related to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) are continuously emerging at the Gumi Office of Education. Sporadic cluster infections are also continuing in Gyeongsan and Gyeongju, bringing the daily number of confirmed cases in the Gyeongbuk region close to entering the 30s again.

According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 17th, as of midnight, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Gyeongbuk region increased by 29 (including 1 imported case) from the previous day to 3,796 (including 94 imported cases).

New confirmed cases by region are 11 in Gumi City, 5 in Gyeongsan City, 4 each in Gyeongju City and Chilgok County, and 1 each in Pohang City, Mungyeong City, Uiseong County, Yeongdeok County, and Goryeong County.

Among the 11 new confirmed cases in Gumi City, 9 are related to the Gumi Office of Education. As a result, the cumulative confirmed cases related to this facility have increased to 15 (including 1 in Goryeong County) since the 14th.

Among the 5 new confirmed cases in Gyeongsan City, 2 have unknown infection routes. The other 3 are contacts of previously confirmed cases Gyeongsan 1131, Gyeongsan 1121, and Gyeongsan 1027.

Among the 4 new confirmed cases in Gyeongju City, 3 are employees related to nuclear power plants: 2 at the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) headquarters and 1 at the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant. KHNP is conducting a full inspection of about 1,600 headquarters employees.

The 4 new confirmed cases in Chilgok County all had contact with confirmed cases from the Daegu area. The 1 new confirmed case in Pohang City has an unknown infection route, and in Mungyeong, a contact of previously confirmed case Mungyeong 21 tested positive during self-quarantine.

In Uiseong County, 1 person was confirmed positive through a preemptive test at a vulnerable facility, and in Goryeong County, 1 person related to the Gumi education support facility contact was confirmed. The 1 new confirmed case in Yeongdeok County is an imported case.

Meanwhile, in Gyeongsangbuk-do, 121 people (excluding imported cases) tested positive across various areas over the past week, resulting in a weekly daily average of 17.3 confirmed cases. Currently, 2,471 people are under self-quarantine.
