According to the Pohang Coast Guard on the 17th, at around 11:31 PM the previous night, a 24-ton tugboat towing a barge sank about 1.5 km from Yangpo Port in Nam-gu, Pohang.
The Pohang Coast Guard deployed vessels and rescue personnel, rescuing crew member A (59) about 20 minutes after receiving the report, and then rescued the captain B (61), who had lost consciousness, around 12:13 AM on the 17th and transported him to the hospital. However, captain B passed away.
The tugboat and barge involved in the accident were reportedly deployed for reinforcement work on the breakwater at Yangpo Port. The tugboat involved in the accident sank completely.
