[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province (Governor Jeon Chan-geol) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of the Hupo Marina Port Development Project on the 16th at the Hupo Marina Port area, attended by provincial and county council members, and heads of organizations.
The Hupo Marina Port Development Project is the first project to begin as part of the national support hub-type marina port creation plan, aiming to become a center for marine tourism. The total
construction cost is 66.2 billion KRW (national funds 25.9 billion KRW, provincial funds 6.4 billion KRW, county funds 33.9 billion KRW). The first phase included basic facilities such as breakwaters, breakwater revetments, vertical revetments, and boat docks, completed in 2019.
The second phase, with a project cost of 23.1 billion KRW (provincial funds 4.9 billion KRW, county funds 18.2 billion KRW), involves installing functional facilities such as a clubhouse and repair and storage facilities. The project scale includes a three-story clubhouse, repair facilities (two floors above ground), and land storage facilities (one floor above ground), scheduled for completion in the first half of next year.
Jeon Chan-geol, Uljin County Governor, stated, "Once the Hupo Marina Port Development Project is completed, it is expected to greatly contribute to the expansion of marine sports, fostering the marine tourism industry, and the development of specialized personnel and infrastructure for yacht management and repair as an intermediate stopover in Northeast Asia, thereby significantly advancing the local economy of Uljin-gun."
