On the afternoon of the 16th, Joo Ho-young, acting leader of the People Power Party, participated in the 7th anniversary memorial ceremony of the Sewol ferry disaster held in Danwon-gu, Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, along with lawmakers from the floor leadership including Lee Jong-bae, chairman of the Policy Committee.
Immediately after the memorial ceremony, Acting Leader Joo told reporters, "It is a process of empathy, consolation, healing, and integration."
Regarding Kim Jong-gi, operating committee chairman of the 4·16 Sewol Family Council, urging to assist in recommending candidates for the 'Special Prosecutor for the Truth Investigation of the Sewol Ferry Disaster' desired by the bereaved families and revising the enforcement decree of the Special Act (Special Act on the Truth Investigation of Social Disasters and Construction of a Safe Society), he responded, "I will not discuss current issues," and left the scene.
Earlier, in December last year, the National Assembly passed the 'Request for Appointment of a Special Prosecutor by the National Assembly for the Truth Investigation of the Alleged Fabrication and Editing of Evidence Related to the 4·16 Sewol Ferry Disaster.'
The People Power Party recommended Gu Chung-seo, representative lawyer of the law firm J&C, and Han Seok-hoon, professor at Sungkyunkwan University Law School, as members of the candidate recommendation committee for the special prosecutor for the Sewol ferry disaster truth investigation. The Democratic Party had previously recommended Kim Nam-jun, representative lawyer of the law firm Citizen, and Choi Jeong-hak, chairman of the Democracy Law Research Association.
