[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] On the 16th, President Moon Jae-in requested the National Assembly's Sewol Ferry Disaster Truth-finding Special Prosecutor Candidate Recommendation Committee to recommend a special prosecutor candidate.

This request is in accordance with the 'Special Prosecutor Appointment Act,' under which the recommendation committee recommends two lawyers with over 20 years of legal experience, and the president appoints one of them as the special prosecutor.

Previously, on December 10 last year, the National Assembly passed the 'Resolution Request for the Appointment of a Special Prosecutor to Investigate Allegations of Fabrication and Editing of Evidence Related to the April 16 Sewol Ferry Disaster.'

The People Power Party recommended Gu Chung-seo, representative lawyer of the law firm J&C, and Han Seok-hoon, professor at Sungkyunkwan University School of Law, as members of the Special Prosecutor Candidate Recommendation Committee for the Sewol Ferry Disaster truth-finding. Lawyer Gu served as chief judge at the Gwangju District Court and Suwon District Court. Professor Han served as chief prosecutor at the Gwangju High Prosecutors' Office.
