Will the US Army Introduce the Bearwolf?

[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The Beowulf vehicle, made by BAE Systems, has been selected for the U.S. Army's next-generation Cold Region All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) program candidate evaluation. The U.S. government issued a Request for Prototype Proposal (RPP) for cold-weather all-terrain vehicles (CATV) last June.

The Beowulf is an unarmored multipurpose tracked vehicle. It can transport personnel and cargo using two cargo compartments even in rugged terrain, and its articulated drive system provides high mobility. In line with its multipurpose tracked vehicle design, it is equipped with a cargo bed. The cargo bed can be used for logistics support and disaster relief purposes.

Mark Signorelli, Vice President, stated, "The Beowulf can operate in any terrain such as snow, ice, and rocks, and its amphibious capability allows smooth operations in flooded areas or coastal waters."

The Beowulf was designed based on the armored vehicle BvS10, which is operated in five countries worldwide. Starting with the British Royal Marines in 2005, Austria also deployed it. Countries currently using the BvS10 are considering adopting the Beowulf because sharing many common components allows for efficient lifecycle management as well as reduced maintenance costs.
