[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] As Ssangyong Motor undergoes corporate rehabilitation proceedings (court receivership) for the first time in 10 years, the Ssangyong Motor Labor Union has expressed its intention to actively participate in the company's normalization on the premise of maintaining full employment.

On the 16th, the Ssangyong Motor Labor Union released a press statement saying, "There is no change in the full employment policy that workers should not be forced to make unilateral sacrifices," and added, "The contributions of workers, who are members of the company, must be recognized, and a rehabilitation plan that aligns with the government's employment policy must be established."

It continued, "The reason the union did not oppose the application for rehabilitation proceedings was to normalize the company through a sale and maintain full employment," and added, "Although the company has ultimately entered rehabilitation proceedings, we will actively cooperate with stakeholders for resale."

The union also urged the government to take effective measures to prevent an employment crisis, as Ssangyong Motor's court receivership affects the livelihoods of more than 200,000 workers, including 4,800 employees, sales and maintenance staff, and employees of about 2,020 first- and second-tier parts suppliers.

In particular, the union emphasized that the current court receivership situation is different from the 'Ssangyong Motor Incident' in 2009.

Jung Il-kwon, chairman of the Ssangyong Motor Labor Union, stated, "There may be public concerns about confrontational struggles similar to those in 2009 when court receivership began, but the labor union will cooperate for the company's rehabilitation," and added, "We will actively respond and cooperate to ensure that consumers have no problems purchasing vehicles and alleviate customers' concerns who hesitate to buy vehicles by resuming production as soon as possible."
