Accurate Location Tracking Enabled by UWB Technology Integration
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Samsung Electronics launched the upgraded version of its location management accessory, the ‘Galaxy SmartTag+’, in South Korea on the 16th.
The Galaxy SmartTag, released in January, is a mobile accessory that can be attached to items without communication functions, such as pets or keys, in addition to Galaxy devices, helping users easily and conveniently check their location.
The Galaxy SmartTag uses low-power Bluetooth (BLE) technology to display location information on smartphones. Even when offline without network connection, it allows users to find their valuable items with the help of nearby other Galaxy smartphones or tablets.
The newly released Galaxy SmartTag+ is equipped with Ultra Wide-Band (UWB) technology in addition to the previous low-power Bluetooth (BLE) technology, enabling more precise location tracking of the item you want to find.
Also, on Galaxy smartphones equipped with UWB technology such as the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S21+, AR (Augmented Reality) technology visually provides information on how far the item is, its direction, and movement path. This helps users find their items more easily and conveniently.
To use the Galaxy SmartTag and SmartTag+, devices must be registered in the ‘SmartThings Find’ service of the ‘SmartThings’ app, and multiple SmartTag series can be registered per smartphone.
The Galaxy SmartTag and SmartTag+ are also useful for controlling smart devices along with location management. Users can set different actions to be executed when the button is pressed shortly or pressed and held through the SmartThings app.
For example, if you remember that you left the living room air conditioner on after going out, instead of taking off your shoes and going back in, you can simply press the button on the Galaxy SmartTag or SmartTag+ to turn it off.
The Galaxy SmartTag+ is available in two colors, Black and Denim Blue, and is priced at 39,600 KRW. It can be purchased at Samsung Digital Plaza nationwide, Samsung Electronics’ website, Coupang, 11st, Gmarket, Naver Smart Store, and other open markets.
