[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Doosan Infracore announced on the 16th that it won the top prize, the Gold Award, at the German international design competition 'iF Design Award 2021' for the design of the 'ConceptX Excavator.'

The iF Design Award, organized by the International Forum in Germany since 1953, is considered one of the world's top three design awards alongside the American International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) and Germany's Red Dot Design Award. The Gold Award is the highest honor, given to only 75 works out of approximately 10,000 entries.

The ConceptX Excavator submitted by Doosan Infracore is a futuristic unmanned construction machine. It features a design without a cabin for the operator and has four separate lower chain excavator tracks. The four tracks are electrified for each driving part except for the excavator boom, which corresponds to a human arm, and circular indicators are installed at the joints to allow easy recognition of load.

Doosan Infracore received the iF Design Award main prize last year for its new wheel loader (DL-7 series), marking two consecutive years of awards. A Doosan Infracore official said, "It is rare in the industry for construction machinery to win the Gold Award at the iF Design Award," adding, "We will sequentially apply the highly recognized innovative design to our products to build a premium brand image."
