[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] On the 16th, the People Power Party expressed condolences to the victims of the Sewol ferry disaster and stated, "We will firmly respond to any acts that exploit the pain for political gain or personal profit."
Yoon Hee-seok, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a statement, "It has been seven years since the Sewol ferry disaster took the precious lives of 299 people," adding, "Five people have still not returned to us, and the wounds of those left behind who lost their precious family members have not yet healed."
He continued, "The People Power Party prays for the eternal rest of the victims together with all the people of the Republic of Korea and extends sincere condolences to the bereaved families."
He also emphasized efforts for a safer society. Spokesperson Yoon said, "Above all, with over 1,700 deaths already caused by COVID-19, daily life in today's Korea has become a luxury," adding, "The People Power Party will take the pain of the Sewol ferry disaster as a lesson and establish a system to protect citizens from unexpected disasters."
He further stated, "We will firmly respond to any acts that exploit the pain of the Sewol ferry disaster for political gain or personal profit, and ensure that the tragic deaths of the victims are neither distorted nor disparaged."
