Greenhouse Gas Diagnostic Consulting, Excellence in Four Evaluation Areas Including Green Leader Training... Enhancing Resident Participation Through Non-Face-to-Face Consulting and Online Education Amid COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) was selected as the best district in the ‘2020 Autonomous District Low-Carbon Living Practice Movement’ evaluation by Seoul City.
This evaluation was conducted by Seoul City and the Green Seoul Citizens Committee, covering four project areas implemented by 25 autonomous districts in Seoul last year: ▲Greenhouse gas diagnosis and consulting in the non-industrial sector ▲Operation of the Seoul Promise Citizen Practice Group ▲Operation of climate change education programs ▲Training of green leaders.
Under the environmental city vision of ‘Comfortable and Sustainable Environmental City, Geumcheon,’ the district received the highest evaluation in all areas by practicing low-carbon living together with residents, including planning various programs with the ‘Geumcheon-gu Seoul Promise Citizen Practice Group,’ composed of 16 local organizations.
Despite difficulties in face-to-face promotional activities and climate change education programs due to COVID-19 last year, the district promoted ‘non-face-to-face remote consulting’ and ‘production and pilot operation of online educational content.’
As a result, even under social distancing measures, residents’ interest in the low-carbon living practice movement increased, with the highest participation among autonomous districts of 335 households in greenhouse gas diagnosis consulting.
Also, the district’s representative environmental education program, ‘Nice to Meet You! Geumcheon Eco Classroom,’ was operated 118 times as an online assignment-based non-face-to-face education, achieving participation of 2,779 residents.
Meanwhile, as a result of practicing low-carbon green living in various ways such as promoting eco-mileage and mini solar panel installation together with the Geumcheon-gu Citizen Promise Citizen Practice Group, the district received the ‘2020 Green Management Award’ Presidential Citation and the ‘2020 Government Award for Promotion of Eco-friendly Technology and Consumption’ Prime Minister’s Citation.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “Despite the difficult situation due to COVID-19, thanks to the residents’ active willingness to participate, we were able to achieve good results in all areas of the low-carbon living practice movement. We will continue to work together with residents under the vision of Geumcheon as an environmental city to leave a clean environment for future generations.”
