[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] On the 15th, Lee Gaeho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, became the first incumbent National Assembly member to test positive for COVID-19.

According to the National Assembly, Lee underwent a COVID-19 test on the morning of the day after his executive secretary was notified of a positive diagnosis and classified as a close contact, and he tested positive.

The National Assembly COVID-19 Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters began disinfection measures centered on the 7th floor of the National Assembly Members' Office Building, where Lee's office is located.

With the April extraordinary session of the National Assembly and government questioning scheduled for next week, an emergency has been declared. Heo Young, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, stated in a notice that day, "Following Lee's COVID-19 diagnosis, we will identify members who had contact with him and cooperate with health authorities to promptly implement quarantine measures such as self-isolation."

However, the floor leader election scheduled for the 16th will proceed as planned. Spokesperson Heo said, "The floor leader election tomorrow will be conducted as scheduled while strictly adhering to quarantine rules," adding, "Members who cannot attend the party meeting due to self-isolation will participate in the election through online voting."
