[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has decided to file a complaint against Namyang Dairy Products for violating the Food Labeling and Advertising Act after the company announced that its product has an effect in suppressing COVID-19, sparking controversy.


On the 15th, the MFDS announced that it plans to request administrative action from the local government in charge and file a complaint with the police regarding Namyang Dairy Products' announcement of the COVID-19 suppression effect of its 'Bulgari' product.


Earlier, on the 13th, Namyang Dairy Products announced at the 'Development of Antiviral Foods in the COVID-19 Era' symposium that it was the first in Korea to confirm the antiviral effect of its Bulgari fermented milk product against COVID-19.


An MFDS official explained the reason for the complaint, stating, "As a result of an urgent on-site investigation conducted that day, it was confirmed that Namyang Dairy Products actively participated in the research and the hosting of the symposium."
