Dongjak-gu Takes Proactive Measures to Prevent Fires in Mixed-Use Residential Complexes

Joint Inspection of 8 Mixed-Use Apartment Complexes by Private Experts, District Office, and Dongjak Fire Station... Fire Prevention Checks by Field According to Inspection Checklist for Building and Fire Safety Facilities

Dongjak-gu Takes Proactive Measures to Prevent Fires in Mixed-Use Residential Complexes

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will conduct urgent fire safety inspections by sector to prevent fire accidents in mixed-use residential and commercial apartments.

Mixed-use residential and commercial apartments coexist with residential facilities and commercial spaces, so if a fire breaks out in the low-rise commercial area, it can quickly spread to the upper floors. Due to their steel frame structure, they are highly vulnerable to fire, which can lead to major accidents.

This inspection will be conducted from April 21 to May 7 to preliminarily assess the fire prevention safety of fire protection facilities and buildings in mixed-use residential and commercial apartments in the area, following a fire incident at a mixed-use apartment in Dasan-dong, Namyangju-si on the 10th.

The inspection targets eight mixed-use residential and commercial apartments, including Sangdo Hyunheim. Private experts have been selected, and the district office staff and Dongjak Fire Station will jointly conduct inspections according to sector-specific checklists.

In the architectural sector, the inspection includes ▲ compliance with relevant regulations on evacuation facilities and fire compartments ▲ presence of obstacles such as stored items in evacuation stairs and evacuation routes that hinder passage ▲ appropriate use of facility purposes and illegal structural or usage changes.

In the fire protection facilities sector, the inspection includes ▲ proper operation of fire extinguishing facilities such as sprinklers ▲ proper operation of alarm facilities such as emergency alarm systems and automatic fire detection systems ▲ proper installation and maintenance of evacuation devices such as escape chutes.

Additionally, ▲ establishment and maintenance status of emergency contact networks ▲ proper management of hazard warnings and safety signs will also be inspected.

After the inspection, minor issues will be corrected immediately on-site, while serious defects will receive correction orders with follow-up verification. If correction orders are not complied with, administrative measures will be taken according to relevant regulations to strengthen safety inspections.

For inquiries related to this inspection, contact the Safety and Disaster Management Officer.

Im Chang-seop, Safety and Disaster Management Officer, said, “Fire safety accidents, especially in high-rise buildings like mixed-use residential and commercial apartments, can cause serious damage to life and property when a fire occurs. We will do our best to create a safe Dongjak-gu through proactive prevention and systematic management.”

Meanwhile, since February, the district has been promoting a fire safety performance enhancement support project targeting nine fire-vulnerable buildings such as medical and elderly care facilities and local children’s centers, including replacing combustible exterior materials and installing simple sprinklers to prevent fires.
