[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jeonnam Sinan-gun (Governor Park Woo-ryang) announced on the 15th that it signed a business agreement on the 12th with Mokpo Daeyang SC Co., Ltd. for a pilot project of smart laver seed cultivation facilities.
The signing ceremony was held with the attendance of Park Woo-ryang, Governor of Sinan-gun, Lee Seung-hwan, President of Mokpo Daeyang SC Co., Ltd., Kim Gil-dong, Chairman of Sinan-gun Fisheries Cooperative, and Choi Myung-gap, Chairman of Sinan-gun Laver Producers Association.
Until now, laver seedling production companies in Sinan-gun have been small-scale and marginal, facing limitations in producing high-quality seedlings and stable supply, causing difficulties such as giving up laver farming for a year when natural disasters like typhoons occur.
To overcome this, the county decided through the business agreement to conduct a pilot project for developing superior laver seeds by applying AI-based smart cultivation facility technology for laver seed cultivation devices.
Through this agreement, it is expected to greatly contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the laver industry by producing and distributing high-quality laver seeds that prevent production instability due to climate change and natural disasters, prevent early-stage laver disease damage, and reduce labor.
Governor Park Woo-ryang said, “For increasing the income of laver farming households, high-quality laver seeds must be supplied in a timely manner,” adding, “We will actively support the stable supply of high-quality laver seeds through the AI-based ‘Laver Seed Smart Cultivation Device’ pilot project to expand the profits of aquaculture households.”
Sinan-gun’s laver aquaculture produces 49,240 tons from 506 households over 8,070 hectares of tidal flats rich in germanium, generating an income of 55 billion won.
