Woo Won-sik, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for party leader, is making his candidacy announcement at the briefing room of Gwangju Metropolitan Council on the 15th.
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Woo Won-sik, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate, declared his candidacy at Cheonggye Plaza in Seoul on the morning of the 15th and then visited Gwangju to reaffirm his determination.
On the same day, Woo held a press conference at the briefing room of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, stating, "I will break through head-on with people's livelihood and definitely open the path to regime re-creation."
He continued, "The Democratic Party will revive only by going into the people," adding, "We must achieve results in people's livelihood to recreate the regime, and only by recreating the regime can the Moon Jae-in administration be fully evaluated."
He explained that the reason for the Democratic Party's crushing defeat in the recent by-elections was that it closed its ears to the people's voices and at some point let go of and lost the path presented by the people.
He then expressed his determination to go back into the people, overcome the current severe crisis in people's livelihood, and regain the people's trust.
Woo said, "If I become party leader, I promise to provide solid support so that issues such as military airport relocation and future strategic industries like the 4th Industrial Revolution can proceed," emphasizing, "Especially regarding the military airport relocation, we will discuss incentives for the relocation areas."
He also mentioned the LH scandal.
He stated, "The LH scandal is an accumulated problem that must be eradicated at its root to ensure it never happens again," and added, "I will actively push for the passage of the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act fundamentally."
Regarding regional development, he explained, "We will thoroughly review ways to benefit regions through institutional methods such as corporate tax."
Woo emphasized, "Through this party leadership election, we must make the Democratic Party a base camp for regime re-creation," and said, "The leader must be someone who can firmly establish the party's core and make the party a one team."
He added, "If I become party leader, I will steadfastly move forward focusing only on unity and regime re-creation," and concluded, "I will innovate through people's livelihood, strengthen field-oriented approaches, and innovate more strictly than the people's expectations."
