Hong Young-pyo Declares Candidacy for Party Leader in Gwangju, Vows to Take Full Responsibility for Moon Jae-in Government's Success... On the 15th, Representative Hong Young-pyo declared his candidacy for the Democratic Party leader election at the briefing room of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council.

On the 15th, Representative Hong Young-pyo, who is running for the Democratic Party of Korea leadership election, visited Gwangju and made this statement.


At 1:30 p.m. that day, Hong held a press conference at the briefing room of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council and said, “We have caused great disappointment and concern to the people of the Honam region who have shown unwavering love and overwhelming support for the Democratic Party,” adding, “We will deeply reflect on and innovate based on the serious warning contained in the by-election public sentiment.”


He continued, “The bold progressive spirit that Honam has consistently upheld is the attitude our party needs most right now,” and appealed, “We ask Gwangju and Honam to become the light of change and reform for the Democratic Party of Korea.”


He also emphasized, “I will devote all my efforts to the success of the Moon Jae-in administration and the launch of the 4th Democratic Party government.”


Candidate Hong Young-pyo reiterated the party’s vision as ▲stability and unity of the party ▲success of the Moon Jae-in administration through strengthening the party’s leading role ▲realization of responsible party politics centered on the party. He expressed his determination, saying, “Now, when leadership of unity and responsibility is needed more than ever, I will stake everything to achieve regime re-creation.”


Candidate Hong said, “The spirit of Honam and public sentiment is to never stop the path of progressive history,” and stated, “With leadership of breakthrough, unity, and responsibility, I will create bold progress starting from Honam.”


Meanwhile, after the press conference, Candidate Hong held a policy meeting with Kim Yong-jip, chairman of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, and other Gwangju metropolitan and local council members.


Hong Young-pyo, a four-term lawmaker from Bupyeong-eul, achieved reform results as the floor leader of the 20th National Assembly by handling the five regulatory reform bills and successfully designating the Corruption Investigation Office and the adjustment of prosecution and police investigative authority bills as fast-track legislation.


He served as chairman of the National Assembly Environment and Labor Committee and head of the Moon Jae-in presidential campaign’s job headquarters, laying the foundation for the Gwangju-type job model.


Currently, as a member of the National Defense Committee and chairman of the Democratic Party’s Good Local Government Committee, Candidate Hong is dedicated to regional issues such as the relocation project of the Gwangju military airport, normalization of the Asia Culture Center, and the commencement of construction of Heuksan Airport within this year.
