Vivo Achieves First No.1 Market Share in China's Smartphone Market

Fierce Competition Between Oppo and Vivo to Fill Huawei's Gap

Vivo Achieves First No.1 Market Share in China's Smartphone Market

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo has recorded the number one market share in China for the first time.

According to the weekly model tracker of the Chinese smartphone market by global market research firm Counterpoint Research on the 15th, Vivo ranked first in the Chinese market for the first time in the second week of March. As of the fourth week of March, the market share in China was recorded as Vivo 24%, Oppo 21%, and Huawei 15%.

Vivo's clear product positioning strategy is being evaluated as effective. Currently, Vivo has a wide range of products including the Nex, X, S, Z, Y, and U series, as well as its sub-brand iQOO. The Nex and X series are Vivo's flagship series, characterized by enhanced camera features, while the S and U series are known for their excellent cost-effectiveness. The Y series focuses on the mid-to-low price range, and the low-priced iQOO and Z series are mainly sold online.

Counterpoint Research predicted that the competition for first place between Vivo and Oppo in the Chinese market will become even fiercer amid the decline in Huawei's market share due to U.S. sanctions. Yang Wang, a researcher at Counterpoint Research, explained, "Oppo and Vivo are continuing the most aggressive strategies and moves, and the competition for the lead between these two companies will continue for the time being."
