[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The police conducted a complainant investigation against Ahn Jin-geol, director of the Minsheng Economy Research Institute, who jointly filed a complaint against Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon for false information disclosure and defamation under the Public Official Election Act.

The Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 15th that they conducted a complainant investigation against Director Ahn.

Earlier, the Minsheng Economy Research Institute and others submitted a complaint, alleging that Mayor Oh, during his candidacy, was involved in preferential treatment suspicions regarding land in Naegok-dong and defamed the victims and bereaved families of the Yongsan Tragedy. Before the complainant investigation, Director Ahn stated, "There are at least six witnesses who saw Mayor Oh participating in the land surveying site in Naegok-dong, yet Mayor Oh and the People Power Party keep lying," adding, "The defamation of the victims of the Yongsan Tragedy is not something that can be overlooked."

He further said, "Mayor Oh participated multiple times in far-right extremist rallies led by Jeon Kwang-hoon but lied that he participated only once, and he also lied about the corruption case related to Pi City that occurred during his tenure as mayor, so we will additionally file a complaint for spreading false information."

Mayor Oh is suspected of being involved in receiving 3.6 billion won in compensation when his in-laws' land in Naegok-dong was designated as a public housing district during his previous term as Seoul mayor. During this election process, he sparked controversy by referring to the Yongsan Tragedy as "an incident caused by police force deployment for excessive and careless suppression of violent acts."
