Damyang-gun Reports 6 Additional COVID-19 Confirmed Cases

[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang County, Jeonnam, held an emergency briefing on the 14th and 15th following the occurrence of six COVID-19 confirmed cases, announcing the current situation and future response plans.

According to the county on the 15th, five additional confirmed cases were identified after testing contacts who overlapped with the movement of Damyang case number 11 (Jeonnam 982), confirmed positive on the 14th.

Accordingly, on the morning of the 15th, an emergency meeting was held presided over by Choi Hyung-sik, the mayor of Damyang County, to discuss countermeasures, and it was decided to raise social distancing to level 2 from today until the 2nd of next month.

In addition, to cope with the surging demand for specimen testing, temporary screening clinics will be set up by mobilizing employees from the main office.

Furthermore, disinfection of areas around confirmed cases and visited facilities has been completed, and additional identified contacts are undergoing specimen collection at screening clinics and awaiting results.

Mayor Choi Hyung-sik stated, “As soon as the epidemiological investigation is completed, we will promptly and transparently disclose the movements of confirmed cases to the residents,” adding, “Local residents confirmed to have had close contact with confirmed cases should quickly undergo COVID-19 testing to prevent further community transmission.”

He continued, “Residents with suspicious symptoms or those wishing to be tested can receive free testing at the temporary screening clinic set up at Damyang-eup Comprehensive Gymnasium today and tomorrow,” urging, “Please refrain from visiting other regions such as the metropolitan area and always comply with the strengthened basic quarantine guidelines in daily life wherever you are.”
